In autumn the grains from the rice fields are brought to the plants, where they are removed from a hull. Rice peeled from the hull has a yellow color. In order to put white rice, it has to be further milled and removed from outer bran layers.
Rice bran meal is a by-product that is obtained during polishing of rice. The meal consists of 80% of the outer layer of brown rice grains. It contains large amounts of vitamins, minerals, protein, fat and fiber. It is a feed ingredient used to add in animal feed diets for cattle, pigs and poultry. Rice bran meal includes large amounts of essential fatty acids, vitamin E, B-vitamins (thiamine and niacin) and trace elements (manganese and zinc).
Rice bran meal provides fats (up to 26%) and therefore is considered as an excellent source of energy, and contains a significant amount of protein (up to 15%). The amino acids of rice bran are well balanced and compares favorably with other grains. Source of vitamins B and E, and high level of other vitamins and antioxidants can improve animal’s health and condition.
